A Change of Perspective

Then you feel it. You fee; your soul being jerked from its rest and dragged toward who-knows-what. It's painful; it's terrifying; it rips at you being. WHY? you scream. WHY DID I WANT THIS?

You can't remember anything... and somehow you count yourself lucky. Something tells you that you've been through something terrible.

Still shaken by... whatever, you want to sink into a merciful sleep... but you don't. You can't. You know that to give in now would be to give in forever. You force yourse;f to stay awake.

Every bone in your body aches, and every limb feels as if it weighs a thousand pounds, but somehow you find the reserve to force yourself to your feet.

Once you're standing, you look around. You're in a shallow ditch, hidden from the outside world by a grow of dark, sickly trees. You look up at the sky. It's the color of twilight, but it's illuminated by an eery orange glow.

You look down at your body. You wear rusty, blood-stained gold-colored armor. Though a sword sheath hangs on your side, you carry no sword.

You push yourself through the thick trees to get a look at the outside world. The copse of trees in which you now stand appears to be the only one in the immediate area; other than in, there's only a dry, barren field. A sheer rock wall rises to your right, while to your left the field stretches on as far as you can see.

Your eyes, however, are drawn to the horrifying scene only a few hundred yards in front of you. A town burns, ravaged by some dark force. Dozens of armored bodies lie nearby, stricken down. Far off in the distance you see a line of figures racing away from the bloody spot. As your eyes move across the stage of the horrible battle, a chilling shiver runs through your body.
