A What Kind of Doll?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 20312

She manages to fly into the car trunk without being spotted.

Abbot's gift, having been delivered by a White House servant, is quickly placed within the trunk for it's recipient later. The servant, however, is in a rush, so fails to notice the pixie hiding in the shadows....

After having thanked the President for the unique tour for myself and my young neice (nice to finally have been able to meet her after all those years away in self imposed exile), we walk down to my car. The young one goes back to place her gift from the President. Not having seen what the President had gifted her with, I am only slightly disappointed to hear her squeel in pleasure about something about a "fairy Barbie" or some such. It appears that she couldn't wait until tomorrow to open up her present at her birthday party.

.....

You know, I've just got to admit that there is some kind of irony that that brand of Barbie doll has gotten so popular over recent years. Oh, it doesn't hold the same surprise value to me as what happened a few years ago with the Doctor and such. Almost up there with finding out that Kennedy had not only survived that assasination down in Texas, but had been actually been dwelling within the shadows of the holy of holies, the Agency! Not only that, but leading a faction set against the machinations of a deluded group within the NSA....

Ah, but in the end it all had lead back to me coming back (safely) within the Agency and I am very happy to be back there AND being able to see again those family members who'd otherwise had thougth me vanished from the face of the Earth.

Well, given all that...I was more than a bit honored to accept that invitaion for that wedding! Doublely so to go and represent Mr. Abbot (long time friend) and the President. Oh, they would have loved to have gone, but the sad fact of the matter was that the TARDIS that had come to pick up the wedding guests was a....er... rather rackety model. According to my sources, that elfin pilot's TARDIS was prone to a bit of drift. Point in fact, I came back a month later than planned. That was a danger that people in such high stations can't be gone that #$^& long! Oh, I kind of would have liked to see the stir Kennedy would have caused in Nantucket, but alas because the Doctor (Dr. Who's) TARDIS couldn't well return to this world after that last time....

....

Oh well.

Did learn a few thing while out there about Inquirer and those she calls her friends and family! What a wonderful, odd group they are.... Wish I could share with my young neice those adventures, but....national security and all that. One think I was wondering was what the incubation period is for a fairy baby, and how long it will be before she starts to "show" (assuming she isn't already). That had been right up there with just HOW fairies could reproduce without...er....the other partner. That one came up when I heard about the worries about those accursed from that Red Pyramid. Well, the answer to the first is something along the lines as what a regular human would be for most (even for those small pixies I saw). As for the answer to the second question, the fairy start fissioning off if the....er....regular means of reproduction aren't available. Meaning that unless those pixies within the Thessamer/D'Honaire/John clan get partners, there's going to be some grandchildren by odd means. Oh, there are male and female pixies, but....those are of different species (sup-species?) of pixe. Ama'lis is one kind with her four gossamer, butterfly-like wings while Triakoth (with his two dragonfly like wings) is another kind. Besides not being compatable, genetically (or whatever fey folks have in place of genes) speaking, there is the fact they ARE brother and sister (analog or not).

God! How in the Hell will us humans ever get used to there being real magic in this world (brought to you by that now dead dipshit, the Master)? Because of his meddling back at the VLA and "ley lines" it's actually about, you see.

Wonder if we'll just keep quiet and never tell, it's existence only known to a small circle of people within Washington,DC? Oh perhaps it will break upon the human race like it did that one day some time ago (relatively speaking) back on Nantucket Earth!

.....

Hopefully we can keep some kind of order.... and do a bit better than those other Earths who got sucked into the reality of Terra Prime! Good God, they had to declare martial law in order to keep it together (and only with a bit of help from the Military were they able to do it after a bit)....

That all said, it sure seemed to me a bit odd that magic's reality upon Nantucket Earth came upon the heels of the Champions having visited her shores. Guess that isn't what happened with us folks here, though. Betty and the others visited this world as Champions years ago and noboby but a few now of that archane shit's existence....

Oh, but on a side note, I learned a few odd things kind of related to my still smiling neice's grin as she comes back up to sit besides me in the car as we head out back to her home in Alexandria. We still have that scifi/fantasy conference to attend.

God! I'm going to look so stupid in that Redshirt outfit.

Never could say no to that smile of her's....

Nevermind....

Shit, gotta wonder about my frame of mind sometime....

So, as the car drives off, The fairy who was until very recently known as Uhura is still breathing heavily in reaction to that close call as she leans up next to the still wrapped gift that the human girl (Mary) laid within that trunk. Fortunate indeed that her harried shushing noises had been heeded by the delighted child....

That is about the time that the fairy woman's fear awakens the unconscious little one within her womb, causing him to reach out and touch his mother, heart to heart in concern....

Shocked, the fairy woman looks down at her stomach and gasps.....and a strange feeling sweeps through her. Brown, human seeming eyes shift to green, slitted catlike ones (inherent to the fey folk) and the fairy smiles a soft smile.

"Wee one," she whisper lovingly, looking down at her child still within her womb.

She sings a softly, liquidly song of the fey, in celebration of a new life. Fey folk revere their children (gained through normal birth or by changling means) because they are so rare. Thus, the fairy lass who'd been known as Uhura has gotten caught up in things....and while for a time puts aside the nagging questions of just who she really is and how she got here to celebrate life. Unfortunately, in doing so takes yet another step closer to what could be some messy results for herself.

See, the fey folk have to be careful on how they induct mortals into their rank. They chose the young (infant) babes who are not yet baptized in order to avoid problems that would lead to dire madness for the unfortunate ones. The Oracle knew well indeed what could happen when he chose to change Uhura and others into those of the Faire folke..... If not for the Champions, those unfortunate ones would have....been driven permanently insane upon the final shift....

But there is a race right now against time. Uhura (who can't remember her name or not), might be brave....but she's not suited for being a Champion....

Unfortunate, but that's just the way it is. Her hope layes within being found before it is too late, you dig?

That said, she gets startled back to normal when the car stops and the delighted Mary opens the trunk and gently reaches in to hide her in a shoebox (so Uncle "Brill" shan't see her) as she goes around the "Con".....

As the fairy lass sits in the box (trusting this odd child for some reason), she has to wonder if it has something to do with that....red.....dress she is wearing. It seems so....familiar....?

Whatever the case, she seems to be at some kind of gathering of....aliens?

Creeping closer, the pixie looks out through the slit in the box that Mary (delights at this new living doll she found) is carrying about....

Back at Arlington.....

Uhura D'Honaire is softly asking about a long black wall with countless number of names upon it. In her memories from the "real" Uhura, she has no recollection of such a thing in this national graveyard. She is distracted for a momment as she feels

  1. ....when she gets answered the first time....
