Departure from the Lonely Harbor

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 20304

The others agreed with Elashi's suggestion. More importantly Val, who acted as the helmsman and leader of the group, gave Elashi's plan his approval.

"It's good to hear you speaking again, Elashi." There was a hint of authoritive anger in his voice on this dreary, overcast morning. "I hope you learned your lesson last night. It will be wonderful when I return to Shara and stand before the HighPriests trying to explain your death. I can't begin to put into words how foolish and out of line you behaved last night. You are a noble woman, a brave warrior; but I will not tolerate another stunt like that!" His eyes narrowed on Elashi and he spat to his side.

Elashi cast her gaze downward and said nothing.

Frederic broke the awkward silence, "When should we plan on raising anchor?"

Val turned his gaze away from Elashi and considered the water and the sky. His knowledge of maritime navigation was unsurpassed by any of the four assembled in that lonely harbor, and he was quite a good reader of the sky and the sea.

He shook his head as he took in their situation, "Chuc, I am in need of your assistance. I'm not exactly sure where true North is, these clouds are dense and they don't seem to be clearing as the morning progresses..."

The young mage reached for a pouch hanging from his waist and took out his precious Sunstone. Next, holding the Sunstone to his eye, he searched the sky for any sign of an opening in the clouds, even the faintest patches of light would allow him to read his stone and ascertain where exactly the sun was. He found what he was looking for quickly enough, his stone changing from blue to light yellow when he had finally found the point where the sun was meandering towards it's zenith above.

After they had figured out their location it was decided they would sail around the southern point of the island. This would prove somewhat difficult considering the rough weather, but the currents of the waters around the Isle seemed to favor those going southwards (at least on it's eastern shores).

They raised anchor and set sail, hoping for the best but prepared for the worst. Anything seemed better than staying in that area where only the gods knew how many more of those monsters lived. All was going well for the first few hours, but things suddenly and tragically took a turn for the worst...

  1. ...the weather was turning fouler and they were completely lost when their vessels dahses against some jagged rocks somewhere in the waters off of the Isle
  2. ...a strange, shadowy shape (the size of their own ship) is seen in the water below them...
  3. ...these monsters have boats!?
  4. ...something completely unexpected happens....
