Meanwhile, Fred climbed the dark, damp staircase, and at long last emerged
in the next chamber. The room was a wide one, 20x20, lit by brightly burning torches in copper- inlaid braziers, set at regular intervals between the tapestries that decorated the walls. The tapestries were impressive pieces of work, wrought with gold and silver and a clearly priceless fabric that continued to glimmer despite the humidity in the air. But it was the scenes depicted in the tapestries that caught Fred's full attention. They showed strange pink multi-tentacled beasts, hundreds of them - so many they darkened the sky with their multitudes. The tapestries, which seemed to be displaying events in a chronological order, proceeded to show these horrifying pink demons invading human lands, burning, raping and pillaging, driving iron spikes into the heads of innocent human victims and devouring their brains. And the last few tapestries were entirely incomprehensible - they showed a single, enormous demon, growing in size until it eclipsed the sun and devoured the earth in a single fell swoop. "Diabolical!" Fred commented.
