Fred Confronts an Enraged Parent

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 20232

Metaphorically the beast was certainly a mother of a lizard. Fred didn't stop to ascertain whether that was literally so or whether this was actually the babies' father. From the beast's appalled reaction at the sight of the dead bodies, he could be fairly safe in assuming that it must be one parent or the other.

The dragon seemed to be frozen for a moment by its rage and grief, which gave Fred just the ghost of a chance. He knew that his first sword- thrust must sink home, for he was unlikely to get a second chance. So he lunged at the beast, hoping to strike it in its relatively unprotected underbelly.

  1. The blow struck home.
  2. Before he could complete his thrust, the dragon breathed at him - not flame however, for this was not a fire-dragon, but...
  3. The woman threw herself between Fred and the dragon, apparently prepared to sacrifice her own life in order to save the creature.
