A Tale of Two Groups With the Same Goal

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 20192

Back on Livingston IV...

"Jim!" Spock shouts at the vanished gate, clearly aghast and too shocked to hide it.

In the Oracle's Lair....

Needless to say, things are a touch chaotic here.

We have one man dead already (named Mike Smith) at the hands of some rather ticked off Enterprise folks. Understandable, considering that they had seen their captain cut down before their very eyes by Smith. Kirk is still alive, but greviously wounded. Then of course there is the thing on just how they got here....

Well, guess that the first thing we should do here is to tell what is going on here with both groups. Then we'll talk of what they are trying to accomplish, which will turn out to be the same thing in the end.

This is the story of the first group which we'll call "Dr. Who's group". The happenings of that group can be seen here:

However, the most recent happenings can be found here, if you just want that....

They had been able to, by the way, accomplish what they had set out to do as far as the Hand of Omega. They get the fairy lass free and get it to the right Dalek faction (which of course get tricked into blowing up Skara with it). But the problem is that while the fairy lass is free from her silvery prison, she still has problems. see, it turns out that this is yet another victim of an evil mage nicknamed the "Oracle" (has a thing about torturing Freds and/or Astras). The transformation that this Fred has gone through isn't going to really....agree with her. It's a Matrix thing. Unless she gets transformed back, her mind will crack and with her Matrix still not totally set it'll cause permanent insanity. The team now had to enlist the help of the only mage who could fix things, the only non-evil Zerm they had ever met. Aid enlisted, they find out that things aren't as easy as they thought. Zerm needed two others who's lives were somehow linked to Fred the pixie (via the Oracle, no doubt). All three were needed in order to avoid serious side effect, or in other words (in the words of one Eddie Dean, local smart aleck from Stephen King's Gunslinger series) it'd be "bad juju" to not find them.

Thus in order to accomplish this, Zerm teleported them to the very heart of the now deceased Oracle (another story for another time) to try to track down these others in order to put things to right.

Now, we go to to the group made of the combined forces of Jarlath's group and those from the Enterprise (Star Trek: TOS era).

The Enterprise's group's story is found here:

http://www.terraprimedatabase.com/PlotSummaries/mutiny.htm

They got aid from Jarlath's group and got the Enterprise freed well enough. That's good and well, but it soon comes to light that Uhura is really a transformed Fred. Will come to light that this transformed Fred (who'll we call Uhura for convenience sake) is one of the two people that Dr. Who's group need.

Now, the group of Jarlath's full family history is found here:

http://www.terraprimedatabase.com/PlotSummaries/Tail.htm

However, you'd probably find it more convenient to just get the recent history here:

Now, as stated before, they had managed to take back control of the Enterprise. Also they are also able to go about getting the alien mental control exerted on the Enterprise women, but in the process (Uhura included) a strange thing happened. It wasn't unexpected by those of the Enterprise folk, but expected by those of Jarlath's group. The spirits of the unborn (the rightful owners of the unborn infants) reached out in fright to their mothers and a link was formed. To a woman, every woman on the Enterprise wishes to have their child and raise it. To devote full time to this task, you understand. That means that to a woman, they all resigned from Star Fleet (which will cause a lot of manning problems on the good ship Enterprise). That's a headache for later, though. Right now Kirk and the others are out to find the still missing real Uhura. Through a lot of effort, they tracked down a means to open a magical gate on Livingston IV (the place where all of trouble for the Enterprise began).

They arrived at a the same time as Dr. Who's group, and all heck broke loose.

They are able to sort all of this out later, after rushing the injured (and unconscious) Kirk into Dr. Who's TARDIS (drawing shouts of surprise from the Redshirt) where his wounds are tended to as best as possible. He'll live, but he'll be out for a week....max because to the means of aiding him that were used. Some folks must stay behind in order to watch over Kirk as he floats about the Zero Room. It wasn't designed with humans in mind, you dig? Somebody proficient in Timelord technology. That'll have to be the Professor....who'll need an assistant with some kind of first aid training...and that'll be the Redshirt (a fellow named Myers Benton, if you're interested). Also, there's going to need to have a mage to stay behind for magical "first aid" if other means fail. That magic user will be Betty. More as to just "why" soon. Okay, here's the reasons why the Professor and Benton are staying behind instead of others. See, the land that the others were able to cipher out through various articles left behind by the Oracle had put Uhura and the what what means the others will need to get there will be via those magical gates the Oracle used to reach various realities. Can't use the TARDISes to get there. Zerm's magic was the only way those things got in here and will get OUT! Has to do with the makeup of this pocket universe. That means that the instant language translation feature that the TARDIS gives off will not work. It means that the Professor (who never learned out to actually speak English) won't be able to communicate effectively with the others of this reality they all were going! Can't use a magical translator without people possibly noticing that the words heard don't match what the lips seem to be saying. Ditto for a universal translators that are available through those of the Enterprise! As for Benton, he's going to be a "gopher" for the Professor most of the time, or perform emergency procedures in case of an unexpected development with Kirk. The Professor might be a "doctor", but not in medicine! Benton, however, was "cross rating" from Security towards Medical...and thus was drafted for this job!

That leaves just who shall go. They shall be in two groups, those who shall go, so as to better be able to cover more area in their search. Each group shall have one member who is somehow "linked" to the unfortunate "real" Uhura. That link will give that member a general feel of which way Uhura lay and maybe how close they are (a vague feel if that). Those members are the Pixie Fred and Uhura D'Honaire.

Fred the pixy's group will be composed of: Dr. Who's group (with the exception of Betty), Ace, and Checkov. Chekov will be dressed in contemporary clothing (despite not being able to talk Dr. Who's group into doing the same). They are equipped with high tech items (tricorders and such, archaic by Star Trek: TNG standards they might be) who might be able to aid. As for the fairy, she's...small and very concealable.

Uhura's group will be those who remain. They shall have magic and high tech items to aid in the search as well. Those who are rather non-human reality shall hide such facts with human seemings.

Hopefully, they'll find the last member they need. She'll probably be suffering from some kind of effect that'll make easy detection difficult. Maybe amnesia or such, Sigin mutters. That seems to be the Oracles style. Might even be under some kind of illusion that she's somebody else. Who knows? Can't find out exactly what happened from what was left behind (too dangerous to check too closely.....spell traps and such).

Now, as for just "why" Dr. Who's group is able to travel to this realm they are going to travel to is due to a bit of "re-negotiation" on the part of the Agents with the other Offices. Those others owe the Office of Chaos for various reasons, so that's why they are able....to travel.....back....to the world that Betty had been born upon. The realm which a movie called "Enemy of the State" was playing out, in reality. They shall be going to the capitol city of the land Betty was born in, Washington DC. Before, those of Dr. Who's group couldn't return there due to a settlement between Offices. Now, that's been knocked down to the regular stipulation. Only Betty now can't return to her home place, as per what most Champions must deal with. Terra Prime having been designated as a "home base" for this clan of Champions, that is the exception for those Champions native to her.

The group arrives and spread out.

With Dr. Who's group, Chekov's wondering just what this business about calling old friend for aid and this "Setec Astronomy" stuff....

Amazing how her hand regenerated like that, he thinks to himself, noting the hand that's dailing the number of a pay telephone....

"Do hope I get that I get to recover that hand," he overhears the Golem mutter to herself, "Had my wedding band on it...." With Jarlath's group, unlike Dr. Who's group, Uhura's feeling a twinge in a certain direction....far away probably. Might be unlikely that the "real" Uhura is nearby.... Just a guess, considering this is Arlington National Cemetery....

  1. So with Jarlath's group...
  2. So with the Doctor's group....
  3. In the grounds of the White House...
