Their ponies raced down the slope and splashed across the stream. Behind
them, Alyssa could hear the monsters' voices as they swarmed out of the
woods and ran down the slope after them. Rowle gibbered in fear, looking back - and in the next moment Alyssa, Rowle and the ponies were falling, tumbling down a steep slope toward a rocky mountain stream far below. Alyssa woke up on the shattered remains of her pony, and rolled away in fear and pity. Yards away, bloodied and smashed upon the rocks, lay Rowle. Alyssa ran over, weeping uncontrollably. "Alyssa..." Rowle groaned. "...is that you?" "It's me!" Alyssa sobbed. "Rowle, you're hurt..." "Everythin's gettin dark..." Rowle said with an odd calm in his voice. "No!" Alyssa cried, falling to her knees next to him, cradling his head in her hands. "Rowle, you're gonna be okay!" "Aly... ssa..." Rowle coughed. "I'm sorry... I was always... so mean... to you..." "NOOOOO!!!" Alyssa shrieked as his eyes closed and breathing stopped. "Rowle! Say something! Rowle, please, say something!" Thus, she cried at the side of the dead Rowle for a long time.
