birds, and can be taught to speak and to memorise messages. So Gedwick was
not
surprised to hear one cawing outside the topmost window of the Ivory
Towers to attract
his attention.
Climbing the spiral staircase to the top of the highest turret, he found the raven sitting on the sill waiting for him. "I bear you a message from a sender who wishes to remain anonymous," the bird said. Ged frowned. To send an anonymous message was generally thought to be a breach of etiquette. "What is the message?" he asked. "The message is 'Nevermore'," the raven replied. Ged waited expectantly, but the bird did not continue. "Is that all?" he asked, thinking that if so it was rather a pointless message.
