"Priestess Tarsa." said Councillor Suivant. "Last night you were possessed
by the demonic forces of Valmar, evil incarnate. Though you appear to be
well right now, Valmar's foul seed never fully leaves a soul it once
touched. For the sake of the Church and the innocents we are sworn to
protect, you must leave this place, and spend the rest of your days far
from civilization." "I understand, your Excellence." Tarsa said, her voice unwavering, but her face pale as moonlight. "Now just waitaminute!" erupted Fred, who had managed to sneak into the ceremony by hanging out in the background and pretending to be important. "That's just too cruel! How are you going to make a young woman like Tarsa live the rest of her life in the wilderness?! Considering how many monsters are around these days, she wouldn't even last that long! And what about my contract?" "Fred, please be quiet!" Tarsa cried as the crowd of priestly folk erupted in shocked whispers. "Yes Geohound Fred, you will recieve the entire payment promised you." Suivant said. "As for Tarsa, she will not have to winter in the savage wilds - but neither can she live amongst Granas-fearing people. There are many frontier towns whose heathen denizens would welcome a person of her priestly calibur. It is always a sad occasion to part with one of our own - but as servants of a greater good, not one of us would hesitate to do the same if we had to. Priestess Tarsa, know that you will be sorely missed." As the tearful crowd closed in to bid farewell to Tarsa, Fred slipped out of the Temple and into the balmy summer air. Skye perched on his shoulder. "Well, Fred! Aren't you going to collect your booty?" "Nah." Fred said. "I know it's not my fault Tarsa got jacked up. But I still feel kind of responsible. And it's not like that buttmunch Suivant was paying me a lot anyway." "That's unlike you, Fred. Seems you've matured a bit since we first met." "Oh, shut the hell up! Shouldn't you be banging your head against the ground looking for worms right about now?" Fred looked about, pondering his next move.
