And so the journey toward Caemlyn continued onward. And as the days went
by, Fred more and more
was becoming like he used to be. The clean autumn skies, the fresh cold
air, the adoring crowds that
gathered for him in larger and larger numbers, all these things touched
Fred deeply and restored to him
some measure of happiness.
And the Lady Champlaine, Duchess D'Honaire, was glad for this but still she was troubled over her son. For Fred was not the same young man that she had once been so close to. And though she still loved and cherished him, she was not blind to the fact that her son had changed. His smile had returned and laughter could be heard from his lips from time to time, but he was a worn man now and not so carefree as in days gone by. But what pained the Duchess most was that he now kept himself apart from his family. There was an aloofness about him, a cold reserve, and she could not break through it. Fred would not let her. In a terrible way Fred had become a stranger to his family. Even to his own mother.
