Buck Sergeant Billy Weston ran to one of the helicopters evacuating the
wounded from the firebase. He shouted to be heard above the sound of the
rotors and mortar fire. "Has any of you seen Lootenant D'Honaire? I'm not leaving without him!" One of the wounded men answered him. "I don't know, Sarge! The last time I saw him he was heading towards the southern perimeter!" Typical, thought the sergeant as he ran towards the perimeter, allowing a slightly cheesed off helicopter pilot get out of the danger zone. Sure enough, there was the lieutenant, lying on his stomach and firing a M16 at the advancing Viet Cong. Braving the gunfire and mortar fire, Weston ran over to the lieutenant and shouted at him. "Lootenant, we must leave now!" Lieutenant D'Honaire made no reply, so the sergeant dropped down and roughly shook his shoulder. "LOOTENANT! WE MUST LEAVE NOW ELSE WE'LL BE LEFT BEHIND!" The el-tee broke from his trance and looked at the sergeant. Without saying a word, he got up. However, he still attempted to fire at the enemy, so Weston had risk getting shot and force the M16 out of his hands. They ran towards the evacuation point.
