A Timely Intervention

"Stacy, this is the mother ship. We had a radio malfunction at our end. Sorry about that. Are you all right?"

"Yes, thanks. There was an engine failure, and we had to teleport out. Sorry about your ship."

"Don't worry about that. We're very relieved to hear that you're OK. We had feared the worst when we realised that the vessel crashed. But you said 'we'?"

"My old friend Paula Bruder helped me to get onto the ship, so I took her with me. And someone else was also aboard, unknown to us until too late, a Dr Burke. They're both here with me." Stacy looked up for a moment. Dr Burke seemed to be taking this exchange calmly enough, but Eileen's mouth was hanging open in astonishment.

The voice coming over the communicator went on: "Your communicator incorporates a positioning system, so we have your co-ordinates.

1. "We'll beam the three of you up."
2. "We'll beam you up, Stacy. The other two will have to make their own arrangements to get home."
3. "We'll send a shuttle down for you."
4. "We'll beam someone down to you."
5. "We have an emergency, and are going to have to return home at once."
