More Whitecloaks, More Snakes, More Confrontations, More Monkey Business

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 19264

Back in the still smoldering and smoking desolation of Penn, a makeshift camp had been set up in what had once been the bustling main plaza of the once great city. The whitecloaks had come without warning, as they always did. They held authority almost as high as the King himself and most everyone stayed out of their way. They were deep in a debate within one of the larger tents. There were even guards set at the doorway.

"I think the problem is quite simple!" Handel of the White Stone proclaimed loudly. "We did not smoke out all of the witches and necromancers and sorcerers and warlocks and druids and tree-huggers on our last crusade into the Fens of Canmoor! Did I not warn the entire council and even the King himself! A fire isn't completely put out until you stamp every damned cursed burning ember into the cold, hard ground! Mayhaps it was the work of Belboz the Foul, his knowledge in necromancy is unsurpassed by any. He might have been able to manipulate the beast after it had been slain..."

"You are still assuming that the wyrm was slain by Frederigo of Suffex, my esteemed geomancer." Cut in Helene with her sharp coastal accent. "We do not know for certain whether or not he was successful or not. The pigeon report we received of the uprising in Trescent might be a complete fabrication. Who knows whether Frederigo is alive or dead..."

"Well, someone slayed the Southern Dragon." Ulrik put his two cents in. "And there is a subject that I think we are all ignoring and trying to put out of our collective mind completely..."

Melisse the Green gave Ulrik a hard and deep look. "You couldn't possibly be talking about..."

Far away from that scene, in the northern wastes of the Calamari...

There was a commotion among the men. Mendo ran down to the action below from where he had been standing atop a dune. He had no problem navigating down the dune at such a great speed but his servant was another story. He had clumsily tried to follow his dwarven master downwards, but had only succeeded in sending himself flying down the dune head over heels.

Mendo could hardly see through the thick black smoke which bellowed from the three huge pits dug in the ground near the dead wyrm. He heard the shouts of his men clearer now. The shouts were beginning to turn into cries and frenzied yelling. Men began to run from the scene from all directions. The dwarf paid no heed to them and continued walking towards the beast. The smoke gave way and what the dwarf saw next actually managed to horrify him.

The mutilated dragon's bloated gut had been sliced open and out of it thousands of black snakes were wriggling and writhing towards his men and animals.

Some men were covered with slimy serpents, others were being devoured whole by the larger snakes. The sound of their voices as they died would forever be etched into the dwarf's mind. He cried out to one of his gods and began to run as fast as he could. This was not what he had expected!

Far from that scene and a little earlier.

Fieflord Damian Thatcher halted his horse as did his company of ten. He had never heard of any bloody woodsmen inhabiting this region, as backwards and untamed as it might be (By Allarian standards).

"What is all this nonsense! Who do you think you are, blocking the road like a bunch of highwaymen brigands! Do you know who I am!? I'll have you all hung! Who are you!?" The Fieflord's face became red as his temper rose.

The woodsman carrying the mace began to cackle. "HoooooooooWAH!!!!!" He opened his mouth exposing his sharp, jagged teeth. The entire group of thirty woodsmen did the exact same thing and began to howl as well. It was a frightening sound.

Their skin was suddenly engulfed in dark, matted hair. Their figures began to slouch and their now hairy arms began to grow longer and longer.

"By the goddess!" Damian exclaimed. "SORCERY! RUN! RUN! RUN!"

The ten Allarian soldiers and their Fieflord turned tail and bolted in the direction Crowley had went, towards Penn.
