Morning, and Natalia and Irene were chatting as they waited for their turn
to use the shower.
"The way our numbers have grown recently, I think I shall have to have
some extra
shower cubicles installed," Irene commented. "One is no longer enough."
"That reminds me of a question that I've been meaning to ask. You've got a large and very nice house here, for all its shortage of showers, and money clearly isn't a problem for you. But I've seen no sign that you or any of the other sisters holds down a job. It's almost nine now, and none of you has had to dash off to work." "I think you may have lost track of the days. It's Saturday today. Trish and Susan have jobs, which is why you didn't meet them until the evening yesterday. Erin is a student. As for me, I was fortunate enough to inherit a substantial sum of money together with this house." "What about Erin's parents? Do they know about all this? Don't they mind her staying here with you?" "No, her mother doesn't mind. You see, she was pregnant with Erin when she herself became a sister, and it seems that in such circumstances a female child will inherit the condition, though it doesn't make itself evident until puberty. As for Erin's father, it's rather a tragic story. Fortunately for Erin's mother, the inquest concluded that he died as a result of being attacked by some savage animal."
