Madness and Inspiration

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 19052

Though unsteady on his feet, he looks unwounded!

Steven

"I thought that hawk that my son set on him tore up his face," I say softly to myself, "And when did his bad eye heal up?"

As an odd counterpoint to this spectacle I overhear in my mind one of the songs that I taught my son to help him overcome the fear of the dark at night:

The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain.
There is joy and also pain.
but the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain.

Pretty plain, loony-sane
The ways of the world all will change
and all the ways remain the same
but if you're mad or only sane
the rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain

We walk in love but fly in chains
And the planes in Spain fall mainly in the rain

Right now I do not need things like that running through my mind. This situation is strange enough as it stands. Yes, there is a history of madness within my family, but I do not feel like "loosing my marbles" as I believe Jake put it in passing in his parlance. Indeed, it is exceedingly mad enough that some chap named Stephen King had told of that very thing in on of his books, The Gunslinger.....

It is just that....my wife....

I feel that my so....no, he's no longer my son, the elder Roland. Due to a blood debt, he can no longer call me father and I can no longer call him son. 'Tis what honor and duty demands, but....

Hah! If I was so concerned about honor and that I would have taken care of....

Oh God, what am I going to do about my wife and.....Walter....

That is when, glancing over at Jarlath and the small blue dragon named Junior that....inspiration of a sort strikes!

  1. Mayhaps there IS a way out of this one dire problem I still must face....
