But of course ten bazillion years ago Velus' world did not exist. In fact,
there was barely anything at all
in the universe except for primordial clouds of sub-atomic particles. Not
that Velus' eye cared. It was
just an eye, you know. It's not like it was alive. Hell, the damn thing
was dead. It was just a dead,
round, fleshy eye-ball floating in the void of Creation's earliest moment.
And its sudden arrival in a time it did not belong to would have gone completely unnoticed except for one little thing. The eye was currently the only entity in existence that boasted DNA, and this DNA quickly became dispersed throughout the roiling mass of pre-matter and chaos-energy. And this changed everything for the DNA became imprinted in the very sub-atomic structure of the emerging universe. And the end result was that Velus' eye became the genetic forebear of the universe's first sentient race, a race of floating eye balls known as (and I'm sure this won't come as a surprise to you) the Velus.
