Even A Dog's Life Isn't What It Used To

"I curse you!" he cried out in a fit of rage as he flung the ball to the floor. Fortunately, due to a strange accent he had picked up from his business partners over the years, that sounded enough like a certain other phrase to trigger the opening mechanism of the ball. It popped open, ejecting a strange doglike creature.

Only it was not so strange, and not just doglike. It was a dog, and Fred knew him.

"Help me, Lord Fred!" his former canine companion whimpered as he recognized the human looming over him. "The magic dust from the destroyed pokemons is spreading throughout the land, and transforming magical creatures into pokemons even as we speak!"

"Then stop speaking already!" Fred suggested as Velus paused to inhale forcefully enough to make Fred's ears pop.

"Very droll, Sir," Velus barked. For it was indeed him, even though the magic had turned him from a pretty normal dog into something drawn by a cartoonist who had been sniffing too much correction fluid.

"That's an awful lot of exposition for a single breath in any case," Fred pointed out. "Why do you come to me anyway?"

"Well, we would never get anywhere in time if we had to wait for you to figure things out on your own!" Velus pointed out pointily. "To answer you question, the messenger was instructed to bring the package to the greatest hero of the realm. Have you seen him around lately?"

Fred just sighed and waited for Velus to continue. He did.

"Okay, for obscure reasons to be revealed at a later date, you are the only one who can stop the evil, yadda yadda yadda, you know, standard adventure fare. Let's get on with it shall we?"

1. Fred curses Velus. Again.
2. Fred chooses Velus.
3. Fred takes Velus to a kennel.
4. Fred ignores Velus and lets him go to the dogs. Like he isn't there already.
5. Nick nack paddywack, Fred gives the dog a bone.
6. Fred turns into a pokemon too!
