Demifox Quest

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 18953

Demifox Fred and Demifox Astra looked up at her and the others.....

Demifox Astra

"So, as promised you're looking in on finishing off what we began." I state simply, hugging one of my kits close to me as I look up at my sister.

There had been no doubt in my and my love's heart that the quest would be attended to, I had just wondered it would be either this sister of mine, or her close twin Astra 9a. Both due to the ordeals we've recently shared I find I'm closest to and I find the same is true for "my" Fred and his brothers (Jarlath and Jarlath 2) and sisters (Joan and Joan 2). So while I appreciate and love my new family, the one's who'd aided me and mine during the Red Pyramid debacle are especially close in my heart. Thus, I'm very glad it's them who are stepping forward to aid us! Any and all aid is appreciated, understand, but their aid is special!

Special indeed, since after such a trying mission I'd been sure they'd need more time to recuporate! Indeed, I'd blink when they'd volunteered (just one second ahead of Jarlath 2's group)...

Now, one may ask oneself just what remains to be done, right? After all, the dragon we'd gone out to slay is dead enough (no ghostly green fire even, thank God). Both I, my Fred, and my children are now free and clear from the fearful demifox folk of my world. Indeed, I now have "my" Fred's hand in marriage as well as my lovely children (funny, never pictured myself as the mothering type). While we didn't really accomplish what we set out to do when we got interrupted in Wallants to see "my" Synizn (now sworn to our hand), I and my love find ourselves...comfortable with being demifoxes (love my tail and the ability to shift form to run on all fours as a fox)!

Now, the thing left to do is to somehow get word to our family left behind that we are alive and well. Basically, the message must by needs be vague, else serious repercussions could result. One mustn't blurt out that a son of an Allarian Duke impregnated an Aqualarian warrior princess out of wedlock, right? Never mind that at the time I had been under the sway of instinct and Fred (my Fred) had mistaken me for a one tailed female kitsune (who even the Vixen admits the best kitsune wouldn't take well to the word "no" to sexual advances). Wars have broken out over lesser issues, folks.

No, the message to the family will be vague but reassuring, telling our respective parents that we've found the love of our lives and now have gone off to far away lands to live...well...happily ever after without outside interference or objection! No mention of the fact that we now stand at three feet tall we (and our children) have fox tails. Names will not be named and lands not revealed, for who could believe the truth? That and it wouldn't do if they did find out.

How best to do that? Well, they say that in the Wallants I was going to anything can be found, if one had enough money. Now, who would be the best person of this gathering here to give pointers?

"Synizn 3, who'd be the best one in your old town to accomplish this task?" I ask the dragon mage.

Synizn 3

"The best person I'd recommend would be a female thief named Moondancer," I begin, noting that the name seems to be recognized by some present.

Guess that they have their own "Moondancers" in their own realities, I say to myself.

"She can be contacted at the Inn of the Hung Orc," I continue, "It's where you go to contact either her or her guild. Do make that sign or they'll mark you as an easy target for robbery or mugging, folks.

"Now, my brother," I say, looking down at my demifox brother who'll be going with Jarlath's group, "While my Wallant's abode may have been whisked away to Nantucket Earth and my neighbors will think I'd finally drunk too much, despite my were-bear nature, and flubbed an incantaion, wiping myself out. I rather think you'd better think of some kind of alias to use instead of 'Synizn'. Could draw too much attention, including perhaps the demifox folk...who've been spying on me almost ever since my arrival at Wallants...

"Yes," he says softly, rubbing his jaw, "Might do well at that, indeed. That and not showing our special nature."

Yes, Terra Prime demifoxs have an incredible healing ability and such, similar to lycanthropes. While it wouldn't show up by a casual glance, this nature, one shouldn't push their luck! Just say that they are from a far off demifox village, my brother and Andrea 2, and it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

Yes, luck willing, even those poor, paranoid demifox folk around Wallants won't suspect the truth...

Just wonder if the special nature of their's won't jump to the more mundane demifox of my world? I think to myself, not voicing it aloud.

I mention that thought aloud, but the basic fact is that the mission will go on, with him and Andrea 2 included, despite such questions. He wouldn't miss it. He's...rather smitten with Andrea 2 (who's dead set on going)...

With that, the others are soon off...

A few days after Demifox Fred's and Demifox Astra's abduction by the Men with Silver Eyes...

The band arrives in a clearing, near Wallant's entrance, only to smell the strong smell of smoke!

With some trepidation the heroes rush forth to find...Wallants in flames! There are slain bodies all around (some human, some animal, some...in a halfway state). A shell shocked male elf, dressed in armor that hangs loosely on his frame, is being tended to by another elfin male that the heroes know as Grailing (aka Ke'lan) is tending to his wounds.

"Ke'...?" Jarlath begins to call out, only to stop himself, remembering that this Ke'lan isn't the one from Terra Prime...and probably is still hiding from his peirs, avoiding the Throne. Probably thinks that his race has been fated to fade, leaving the world to the humans.

Whatever the case, to actually say Ke'lan's real name (instead of "Grailing") would send a chord throughout the elven community (thus probably alerting them of Ke'lan's existence). Something that the Ke'lan of Terra Prime hadn't wanted to happen...

Probably the same for this one as well, seeing the alarmed look on "Grailing's" face.

"Who are you?" he blurts out before he can compose himself.

"Uh...?" Jarlath begins, looking nervously at his wives and the others.

"Tarin Gazin," the stunned looking elf behind him says softly, shaking.

See, it'll turn out that the Silver Eyes, sensing the destruction of the Book, had been forced to carry out contingency orders bred into them by their makers. To deny any outsiders the chance of capturing them and studying them (unlocking their secrets), the Silver Eyes were to go directly to the point of their "reality insertion" and immolate themselves. The results of that was the spectacular blaze now going on inside the city. I mean the whole city, folks! The Silver Eyes hadn't bothered being nice to the guards who tried to stop their travel (thus the dead bodies and such), dealing out magic and death of various kinds. One spell bolt had transformed a dwarven ink blotter into this elf that Grailing had found. Another spell bolt had slain his companion.

The former dwarves battle axe looked odd in his hands, now.

That aside, the adventurers had things to deal with.

  1. They had to deal with the elves before them now AND somehow get those message to Demifox Astra and Demifox Fred (which looked more difficult since Moondancer?s place was probably ablaze).
