Fifteen long days had passed since Bert left the gnome in the care of a
manservant. Fifteen long days in which to make sense of what little he
knew, to ponder what yet lay ahead. ~~the Dragon is dead and four
strangers came to Mudspot: the Knight is captured by the King, the
Aqualarian Princess is missing, Velus is nothing more than a shepherd who
was a prisoner of the Dragon, the fourth man, too, was a prisoner... a man
whose good looks is the only thing I know of him...~~
How they were all connected Bert did not know, but connected they were, and to the little girl. What she was he did not know, except that she was filled with a powerful evil force. Seeing her face appear in the machine of the gnome, having it appear as if she were looking right at them... indeed she was looking right at them, made his resolve only strengthen. Bert knew that he had to speak with his King, and that he had to have another chance to interrogate the knight. On the fifteenth day since flying from the Shreken, he made it to the gates of Caemlyn. "Hail!" he cried out to the guard. "I am Bertrand of Giles, a Mage of the White Stone; I have news for our King, the Great Emry Exultaine." Yet what else has transpired during these many days? Fred and his band of the Black Hand should have made it to Absallom fourteen days ago. Velus was nearly killed by the workings of the undead Astra at about the same time. The ranger Alfred was brought back from the dead thirteen days ago. And eleven days ago the miner Crowley told his Fieflord that the Dragon was dead. Time does not stand still, what then has happened?
