Before Fred could do anything to better his situation, even as he was
excrutiatingly
concentrated on his past former self he heard a shriek to his left and an
exclamation to his
right and suddenly heard nothing at all (nor felt, saw or experienced as
well).
Unbeknownst to the Royal Court (excepting a few foul conspirators), the Queen has been the victim of a food poison. The reason was simple, to keep the Queen barren so that no natural heir could be conceived. Unbeknownst to any in the Royal Court (including the few foul conspirators) one side effect was that the Queen was building body mass and muscle tissue at an alarming rate. Indeed, the Queen had noticed it, the King had noticed it, and the Queen's Royal Seamstress had noticed that she had been hemming ever larger dresses in the strangest of places (strange for a petite Lady of Court, that is). The Queen had begun a regimin of exercises in an effort to stem the tide of this unladylike physique, and though she had kept her weight from gaining, her mass did continue to increase. Now, to make a long side-story short, she was as fit as fiddle with a body like an Olympic athlete and was both strong and able to use her strength (she exercised daily with her King and husband). And so, on this fateful day, even as brave Lord Frederigo of Suffex was being bestowed the honor of hand-to-claw combat with the terrible, no-good, bad, mean Dragon of the Southern Caves and a doppleganger of Lord Fred materialized out of nowhere like a ghost from the marsh, and even as the two seemed locked in an eternal, equal, undifferentiated dance of combat, the Queen could think of nothing else but to leap from the buffet table, perform a triple somersault, and side-kick the pretender in the head. And so it happened. The 'pretender' fell to the stone floor unconscious, blood dripping from where the Queen's high heel dug into his skull, and the Royal Court (those ladies, lords, attendants, gents, misses, maids and servants present) exploded in a spontaneous burst of applause for the brave deed of the Queen. Even Lord Fred could not restrain his admiration for his Lady (although he did feel sheepish at being aided by a lady). The King quickly set some guards over the 'pretender' while he escorted his wife from the dining area. Once alone he hugged his wife exclaiming, "By the gods, you are amazing!" She beamed replying, "I have never felt so alive! Never felt so in control! Never felt so...so...Oh my Husband, I want to take you right now!" The King, too, had felt a fire sparked by his beloved's willful and physical act. Yet he knew he must first take care of the business of the Realm. "Tonight my love, tonight. Now, before the Court think you mad or possessed, freshen up and then come back to them. I will see to this doppleganger." "Yes, my Liege" she answered in teasing tones. "As you command, so I shall do." And with that she left, he left, and only the heat of their embrace remained upon the stones of that small chamber.
