into the jungle

Within his mind drifted many questions; what had happened to him? how did he get here? where is 'here'? how can he get back home? what happened to his sword and pack?!? Yet the strongest thought became: is there anything in the jungle that might help me?

Lord Fred felt terrible; he was hungry, thirsty and his entire body ached badly. The beach held no interest for him, there was only sand there. He stood, gathered what few possessions he had, a coil of rope, a piece of flint, a small satchel of dried mutton (a little wet at the moment), and he began to approach the edge of the jungle.

Once under the shade of the many trees Lord Fred wasn't all too sure this was the best place to be. The dappled splotches of sun and shade filtering through the leafy canopy many meters above washed over the clothing and armor of the Knight from the Great Kingdom. There was an abundance of strange sounds and quick movements all about and Lord Fred really wished he had his sword. He continued his walking, going deeper into the green and grey mysterious world. It was a world of palm fronds, and rattan, ferns and figs and moss. All these plants seemed almost sentient as they creeped and crawled along the trunks of the tall trees.

Fred had heard of such places, his childhood tutor had shown him sketchings and woodcuts. He had heard that the lands of Nom Malbra were filled with jungles (and silver, of course) but he had also heard that they were the home of strange beasts that flew through the air or ran like lightning, or walked on two legs like a man. He had also heard tales of the one-breasted women and their hatred towards anything male. Even as Fred was hoping he was not in the lands of the Nom Malbra his stomach groaned and all thought concentrated on food.

He spied some large strange plant that looked edible. He did not wish to die of starvation, but neither did he wish to die of poisoning. Fred felt he could hold out for another few days, so he instead continued his journey. All the while he was unaware that a form was following him, a figure that stayed far enough away so as not to be caught.
