Now you or I would immediately have recognised that Stacy had somehow
come from an alternative
universe. Strangely enough, the paramedic came to a different conclusion.
Those
suffering from concussion often temporarily forget recent events, and
perhaps
answered "Clinton" or even "Reagan" instead of "Bush", but this girl
seemed to have a much
more serious mental problem.
"What year is it?" she asked. "2002." "Good. And what is the capital of the US?" "Philadelphia." The paramedic frowned, and wrote something in a notebook. Turning back to Stacy, she said: "You need to rest. I'm just going to inject you with a sedative. Please don't be frightened." Stacy watched the woman inject her in the arm. Even before the hypodermic syringe was empty she was already unconscious. Some unknown time later, Stacy woke up:
