Astra's misfortune landed her on a ship in the middle of the ocean.
Fortunately it was full of kindly missionaries heading to her homeland.
Could have just well been a ship full of bloodthirsty pirates. That would
have been bad. Twenty or thirty of them would have died but sheer
numbers ... and then ... brr. The captain, Lord Deacon Mountebank, insists that Astra take his cabin, it being one of the few places where a lady could be alone. "It's not that I don't trust my initiates." he said through a mouthful of bushy, white mustache. "I'm just so gosh-darned chivalrous, you know? My mother raised me to respect a lady." Soon Astra discovered that it was a full month until they landed on shore. As everyone on a ship had to pull their weight, she was soon climbing guywires, on the lookout point, cooking meals and maintaining the search spells for evil along with everyone else. One night, when there were only a few on watch and the sea was calm...
