At the Steps of the Magic Shop

Anyhow, you both walk towards the shop. All the while you keep thinking to yourself, ~~self...can this talking bear really be Lord Fred? That's crazy! Of course only slightly more crazy than a bear talking! ~~

Even before you can continue your inner conversation you hear a sound, the sound of a voice clearing itself. Looking up you see a woman wearing a purple dress with yellow fringes. She's crossed her arms and is looking at the bear with a disapproving smile, and her foot is tapping up a storm. She cleared her throat again and nodded towards a second sign, a smaller one beneath the larger one advertising the shop. Engraved on the wood were the words: NO ANIMALS ALLOWED, NOT INSOMNIAC SHEEP, CHICKEN LITTLES, GOLD-LAYING GEESE, DANCING COCKROACHES, OR TALKING BEARS; NO IFS, ANDS, OR BUTS ABOUT IT.

You look at the woman and the sign and the woman again. "But a cockroach isn't an animal," you say. "It's an insect."

The woman looked at you with malice in her eyes. "I know that," she said. "And you know that, and my husband knows that...but the damn fool of a woodcarver didn't know that!"

1. Regardless of ignorant woodcarvers, a bear is a bear, and this one wasn't getting inside!
