The Battle On The Bridge

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 17728

The shards floated to the floor as if they were feathers. A creature strolled into exsistence. It was humanoid, but it was ... wireframe?
Tuvok pulled out a phaser and blasted it. Meanwhile, Scott at engineering, finished tapping at his console.
The thing raised a hand the beam veered, to strike Janeway. Then Chakotay. It raced across the bridge.
Scott had enough time to dive out of the way. The beam splattered on the wall behind him. He took a microsecond to check on Janeway. Her chest rose and fell. Good.
Scott scrambled to his feet. The creature pointed a hand at him and Scott froze. He couldn't move.
But he could speak. "Let me guess. You're from the center of the galaxy."

"True." said the creature. "I supposed you all would figrue it out sooner or later, there being nothing like you in the galaxy. But you're minds are still the same. I suppose I'll have to let some other ships go and capture them later while I concertrate my energies on controlling this ship."
"Computer." Scott said. "Activate self-destruct."
"Self-destruct activated." replied the computer.
The wireframe eyes widened. "Noo!" it screamed.
Scott dropped to the floor. The reports were right. Starship energies could hurt it! The creature vanished in seconds, line by line.
Scott dove for the nav board. He twirled the ship around (indelicately as three crew members slid across the holodeck and got bruised) and fire off in the other direction at Warp 8. But not before leaving behind three torpedoes and a shuttle to explode.

"So you fooled the creature into thinking we detonated?" Janeway asked from the head of the conference table.
"Yes, sir."
"But Scott." asked human Torres. "How did you know to have the computer pretend to activate the self-destruct?"
"I figured if it can be destroyed by a starship's weapons, it can be destroyed by a starship exploding."

Later, Scott joins a team in determining a defense strategy against the creature. They're gonna need one, traveling through the creature's home.

  1. And so it goes. Or does it?
