Of Squirrels and Dragons

"They have been attacking our kingdom on and off for four years. No one knows what they're after. They have burned our fields, kidnapped our children, and destroyed most of our military. These creatures are not gliding squirrels, like those in our jungles. They are flying squirrels. They can swoop down on our fortresses from the air without warning and massacre our troops. They cannot be stopped. And they are incapable of fear, just like ground squirrels. Ground squirrels won't back down from anything, even if it means certain death, and neither will these beings."

Fred was starting to doubt her sanity. "Er, yes. And why have you come to the Dragon's cave?"

"I have come in search of the dragon Minestus. He is a powerful magician, and a close friend of my mother the Queen. He is the only being who can help us defeat the squirrels. And he needs our help as well. Something is destroying farmlands and kidnapping children in the Kingdom, maybe the same giant squirrels that are attacking us. The people of the kingdom are blaming this on Minestus, and are intent on killing him."

The woman, Fred decided, was definitely mad. As a Dragonslayer from a family that had been Dragonslayers for seven generations, he knew all too well that dragons were purely evil and that Minestus was the worst of them all. His own father had been killed in battle with the vile dragon.

1. Fred decided he would accompany the madwoman anyway, however. Mad as she may be, his honor bound him to protect her, and if she approached Minestus with negotiations in mind he would probably kill her.
2. Fred decided he would have nothing to do with her. She could very well be dangerous.
