The stairs led down into a largish room arguably overdecorated in Louis
XIV style,although--all things considered--the red velvet wallpaper was
surprisingly tasteful.
A large portrait of an old man hung prominently,which was slightly unusual,as most people preferred their portraits to remember their younger days.Betty didn't recognize the old man,but he seemed somehow familiar. "Of course",she said to herself softly. "I am in Game 2...or something very like it!" As she expected,there was a fair selection of doors to choose from.There were two to the north,and one each to the east,west,and south.And of course there was the grand staircase,which descended into the center of the room.
