Joan the Dragonslayer....

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 17392

Oh, don't look at me like that! Lord knows what kind of trouble I and the others could cause with the Dragon Nation on this world by making a bunch of rogue warriors have gone and killed one of their own instead of the sanctioned Dragonslayer!!

Author's Note: In the last episode (17391), Sasha isn't actually with child. Typo on my part. While it may make a certain amount of sense, leaving something to continue the bloodline behind in case of dying on this quest, it's not a very gentlemanly thing to do....and entirely out of character for Joan (as well as the other Freds). In other words, that magical charm was to prevent, not encourage, pregnancies....

Joan

See, it's like this. My Allaria just had a very brutal war with the Dragon Nation and I'd rather not cause an incident that could lead to another. The Dragon of the Southern Caverns is mine to kill by decree both by the King of Allaria and by the ruling council of the Dragon Nation. What being that Belinda tells me the last knight who'd tried has gone missing (wondering if he's dancing somewhere....), it falls to me to finish this unfinished business. The powers that be will not be required by treaty to hunt us down and kill us after I and those I've deputized.

Instead, after I and the others return, there shall be an investigation to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt who I am....

Not looking forward to those magical examinations of the soul, but I figure that better this way than anything else.

See, it will accomplish several things, this investigation. One being, of course, keeping us from being hung up by our necks. The next will show my family here that I am actually alive (uh....yes....they are going to be....er....surprised about....er...certain things about me....but....). I'll have to leave again here after this business is done, but nothing prevents Dr. Vincent on making arrangements on teleporting them to Terra Prime for visits....as far as I know (Rules and Agents, remember). Also, once done, this'll be a very quick way of getting Belinda back to her family. Finally and most interesting, however, is the fact that by a woman slaying a dragon legitimately...will open doors....

Oh, tongues will wage years after this, but....this insane way is the only way.

I'm honor bound to complete this mission, and complete it I shall.

Room quiet, I whisper things to Sasha that only she and I would know about that one last night....

She looks a bit pale as she looks at me.

She believes me, at least.

Lord, there are so many things I want to try to explain about this, but right now....I just can't...not enough time....and....

I don't like the interested look she is giving me now, upon learning who I am.

Speaks of something I'd rather not go into. A road I'd rather not go down.

Let's just say my tastes are in men, now.

She looks hurt when I shake my head no, but so be it....

The Sheriff has been called in about this business about a woman claiming to have come back (reincarnation and magic are whispered), but anything he might do about this is shut down by my claim to Dragonslayer custom of "one last night."

Even an imposter gets this one custom (but will get stoned when proven to be false afterwards by the royal investigators).....

"Are you sure you...." the sheriff says, trying to ward me away from my course of action.

"I won't be swayed," I say softly.

Something in my eyes must be showing, because he blinks, beginning to wonder if perhaps this mad, dark skinned woman before him....is who she says she is.....

....

At least, if nothing else nobody hits on me and the other woman. Think I scared them off...

Next day, at a familiar cavern entrance for Joan....

Annafrid

"Joan, while I understand why you needed to do that....can't say I rather cared on being so public." I sigh.

Would have liked being a bit less conspicuous, I add to myself.

  1. "Well, will we be meeting Belboz soon?" I ask.
