A Sign of Things to Come?

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 17355

We all rush over to see.....a sparkling gem form on his forehead?!

It then slowly fades, leaving us all staring.

Daneel, meanwhile, is rather out of it.

He almost looks to be asleep. Whatever he's muttering sure sounds like something one would say while dreaming.

"When Robots sleep do they dream of electric sheep?" Baley finds himself asking aloud, scared.

The Doctor

"Non-glyph type," I quietly observed to myself, noting the lack of symbols around Daneel's now vanished gem.

The split between glyphed and non-glyhphed Golems was roughly a fifty/fifty mix. Evis 7 was of the later while my dear Inquirer was the former type.

That and a few other inane observations go through my mind before I note that Baley's hand is reaching for something that I would rather he not use while in my TARDIS.

Being trained by the likes of Mesciline has advantages.....

....or perhaps I should hold off and let Inquirer handle this, since her hand has reached behind and is now gently placed over Baley's own.

Sometimes I forget that she has amazing peripheral vision, amongst other things. Having already guessed how Baley might be right now, she'd apparently been keeping an eye on him (while not appearing to do so).

I see that

"Think it's about time we talk," she says softly, "In a calm and rational manner. Without, may I add, the use of violence, thank you!"

Baley eases his hand away from his blaster. They all go over to a corner and sit. Tea is served and Inquirer calmly sips on hers.

Sigin, Elrondir, and the elves tend to Daneel, who now is....snoring?

At least he has a pleasant snore to go along with his pleasant voice I think to myself, half joking.

Most people's snore's are something that they're embarassed to admit having. Daneel wouldn't be embarassed by his, let me tell you.

Ayway, the gem on his forehead keeps on fading in and out, lingering longer and longer each time.

Baley just stares at her (or more like the glittering gem on her forehead), and then at his downed partner.

"I do not know exactly what is going on here with Daneel," she said, "I think I know that we didn't have anything to do with it except being around when it happened. But I do believe he's turning into my kind. I cybernetic organism that is known as a Golem."

She then told Baley the truth of the matter of who they all were and why they were here (leaving nothing out except the fact that his life had been chronicled by a man named Asimov, only saying that this tale that had been played out before....in other universes before now).

It was true enough, even if those replays had been through books.....

Why screw up matters already more than they already were screwed up?

That's about the time when Sigin brings a still shaky Daneel over to where Inquirer and Baley were.

"Cousin Inquirer?" he asks, a slightly shell shocked look in his eyes.

I feel sympathy for both him and Baley. It's not like something that so challenges one's world views happens every day..... So while probably not acting like they normally would, their behavior has been commendable.

That said, the gem in his forehead was no longer fading in and out of reality, but there...plain as day.

Sigin (with a few questions asked mentally to his mechanical apprentice) had been telling him the same tale that Inquirer had been telling.

"Uh huh," Baley says slowly, not believing this is happening.

Sigin

What finally convinced that hard headed human policeman about the truth of what we were telling him was Daneel (who'd been a Herculian task of convincing in and of itself, let me tell you)!

But I managed it.

The clincher was pointing out the TARDIS and asking if even Spacers thought such things were possible.

Think it was easier on Daneel's.....well....ego a little bit that his creators were outdone not by Earth technology....but alien tech. It wasn't conceit on his part, that. Rather, it was....pride in what amounted to his parents....

.....

Well, anyway, thank God that Daneel was able to convince Baley! Don't feel like going through that again so soon!

  1. Meanwhile, the Defiant's crew is staring at the blue police box that's in orbit near their ship....
