the small, little, wee man

"Hello," said a small man to Fred Five. And before Fred could reply, the little man continued: "Salutations, greetings, aloha, and kumbaya."

"Uh... ok," said Fred Five a bit taken aback.

The group continued to walk on even as Fred Six took the reins of leadership and began to converse with the strange little man. "Hullo!" he said.

"I believe we've been through this aspect of our speech already," answered the man.

"Oh, um....ok," said Fred Six. "We are strangers in this land."

"Obviously," replied the small man. "That is most evident, clear, and plain to the eye, no-duh."

"Let me handle this," whispered Astra Five. "Sir, we are tourists. We are looking for a telephone repairman."

"You, my dear..." said the man. "...my sweet, my buxom honey, my wee lass, my chickadee, my well endowed coconut tree, you... must be quite mistaken... there are no more telephones."

"What she meant to say," said Fred Five. "Is that we are looking for a telephone booth repairman.

"You, my dear ignoramus," politely replied the small man, "are a nincompoop, a ninny, a fool, an idiot. If there are no more telephones, then why would we have any booths?!?"

"Listen here," interrupted Astra Six (who had been listening intently to the manner in which the little man had been speaking). "There is no need for such language! We are civilized people, cultured, educated, refined. All we wish is to visit this fair place, site, location, and see if we can find a... a mechanic."

"Well why didn't you say so before!" said the man. "A mechanic, a man of mechanical means, a person of great knowledge and know-how. Why, come this way."

And as they walked with the man towards who knows what, they wondered how the other team was doing. And Astra Six kept her eyes up towards the heavens wondering still whether Logopolis had a moon and, if it did, what phase it was in.
