Party at Miranda's Place!

Miranda smiled brightly as she entered her father's ballroom on Jarlath's arm. For some reason, just being near Jarlath made happier than she'd ever been.

Lord Angelo was naturally more than grateful to allow his daughter to see the young man who had rescued her from the Southern Caves. She couldn't recall how she had gotten there, but everyone agreed that the evil dragon was probably somehow to blame.

Briefly, Miranda spoke to her younger sister, 14-year old Julia, and the two of them giggled as Julia agreed that Jarlath was "cute" while Miranda helped fix Julia's curly blonde tresses, so much like her own.

Then all activity stopped as the servants announced "Presenting the Lady Helene DeSilk, and her betrothed, his majesty Crown Prince Ruprecht of Malboncton!"

Everyone applauded as Helene and Ruprecht made their way in. At 22, Helene was as beautiful as her sisters, and had caught the eye of the heir to the Malbonctish throne.

"Oh, I'm so happy for Helene," Miranda gushed. "Someday she'll be Queen Regent of Malboncton!"

"That's really great," Jarlath said unenthusiastically. "Hey Miranda, let's dance!"

"Why, I'd be delighted," Miranda said with a giggle. She joined her new beau on the floor, wondering how life would be if she were to become Miranda D'Honaire.

1. Just then, thinking of herself as "D'Honaire", Miranda begins to feel faint.
2. Suddenly, Jarlath begins laughing strangely.
3. Later in the evening, Helene pulls Miranda aside to tell her something.
4. Suddenly, someone notices that Julia is missing.
5. Later that night, Miranda and Jarlath secretly elope.
6. Lord DeSilk suddenly makes a startling announcement.
7. Just then, there are cries of terror from outside - the Dragon is nearby!
8. Soon another man cuts in to dance with Miranda. When the song ends, she can't find Jarlath anywhere!
