Joran wondered what was at the top of the wooden staircase. Could it be
the home of
some of the flying monkeys for which Wakkikki was famous?
She swiftly dismissed that idea. Flying monkeys would have no need of a
staircase, even
were they capable of building one.
From the ground she could not see where the staircase led; the foliage was too thick. She was not about to risk climbing it. The risk of being ambushed was too great. That left an examination from the air. So she remounted Steed, grabbed the reins (elves fly their monkeys using reins though not saddles) and pressed her thighs into him in the signal to take off. Soon she was looking down into the tops of the trees from above.
