In the midst of the party, the Doctor sees the looming form of Ensign Marc
Marcelleus. He was a xeno-biologist, from one of the curiously large
numbers of planets emulating Earth's barbariac Roman historical period. He
had escaped from it in a crashed shuttlecraft belonging to a rogue Romulan
ship.
His minor was in cultural studies so seeing him on an infiltration mission
should not have been a surprise. Even though Voyager had been his first
mission, he had a lot of experience dealing with the unexpected
already. Except, it was a surprise. Marcelleus had been one of four badly injured when an ill and elderly Kes had violently torn through several sections of the ship. All five were to be just fine and in fact, had healed enough to be left under the care of the somewhat competent medical skills of Tom Paris. Except, there was no way in tarnation that even Tom Paris would have been foolish enough to allow Marcellus to go on an away mission. When the Doctor left the ship, Paris, being the one with the most medical experience, was technically the Chief Medical Officer and could over-rule the Captain on medical affairs. This all was greatly disturbing.
