Places to Go, Things to Do...

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 17229

Betty

"We've got much to do," The Doctor says, smiling. "Shan't be dull."

I'm not expecting it, however, when the first... interesting... thing that happens is my red-headed counterpart running into the console room looking flushed and upset.

"That little turd!" she yells. My sense of alarm fades as I detect a note of amusement under her anger.

"Who?" asks E'eysha. "What's happened?"

"Vila! That... that little thief stole one of my videos!"

"My videos," I correct automatically. "And how do you know it was him?"

"Oh, take a wild guess which episode it was."

It takes a moment for it to click in my brain. "'City'?" She nods, and I start to laugh.

"You want to explain the joke for the rest of us?" Inquirer asks, not unkindly.

"'City on the Edge of the World'," I say.

"It's the episode where Vila gets the save the day and get the girl," Ragan adds. By now, she's laughing along with me.

"Ah, let him keep it," I say. "He probably deserves it. We can always find another copy."

"Oh, sure," she responds. "We can put it on our to-do list: go shopping for videos. Right after finding the other Leela, curing another version of Xoanon, recruiting another Romana to the cause of interstellar do-gooding, saying a fond farewell to the Brigadier and possibly dealing with a giant robot. Have I left anything out?"

"Quite probably," says Sigin, smiling rather pleasantly. Good to see that he's in a bit better mood now, I think.

Ragan laughs again. "Ah, well, sure, let him keep it. I'm sure he'll get a lot of amusement value out of it." She sobers slightly, then, and says "I hope they'll make out OK."

"With the kind of assistance they've got now," Inquirer says, "they should have little problem dealing with their Federation. What they do after that is up to them."

This seems like a very good insight to me, and I nod thoughtfully. "Who knows?" I say to my "sister." "Maybe Vila will meet a girl with nice legs and settle down by a lake and raise kids, the way he said he wanted to." Suddenly, another thought pops into my head. "Hey, wait a minute! That reminds me, E'eysha, you never did tell us..."

But just then the column grinds to a stop and the Doctor cheerfully calls out "Looks like we've landed!"

"Excellent!" says E'eysha, pretending she hasn't heard me. "Let us go and deal with some of those items on our 'to-do' list."

  1. And so we do...
