Playing the ace in the hole.......

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 1710

After the twentieth question, Fred is visably panting and his hackles are raised. It is no longer due to him being angry now, not nervous. Why can't this person give him a straight answer!

"Ah, me wee fox," chuckles the mountain man. "I love this banter, but ye need to give me a goodly reason to continue talkin' to ye, or we can consider this farce at an end. I have things to drink!"

The grizzly man turns away from the incensed demi-fox, and proceeded to pour himself yet another helping from the beer pitcher that the bar wench had left. He really didn't want to be back in town. By inclination due to his lycanthopic curse, he much preferred the company of his fellow clan of were-bears....out in the natural, uncluttered envirns of the deep forest. However, one part of him still longed to help.....to aid.....to live up to the pledge he and his comrades had made long ago. Therefore, to quiet the inner struggle brought on by these duel desires, he had set up a business where....for a fee.....he would aid his customer. If the customer really needed his help, then they'd put up with his rough manners. He charged a fee because....while he still had a side that wanted to aid.....he couldn't STAND the idea of how much social interaction was needed to help the POOR. Sometime, the were-bear wonders why he had to have contracted the oldest strain of lycanthropy, instead of the new strains that that damned wyrm, Minsestus, and made. Then, at least, his actions wouldn't be so under the sway of the curse! This demi-fox had it SO easy at that. And then there were rumors of even newer brands of the 'were' out on several remote islands......

His old self would be disgusted with him now. However, things had changed. The curse had changed him, and it seemed like as more and more time passed, the were-bear found it more and more difficult to understand his actions and goals before that fateful night.....

"Because Malachi sent us," Fred grinds out, out of patience.

Those few words cut through the were-bears indifference and sparked old memories of his life....before. His old friend. His old confidant. His.....old soul mate.....

"You....have my attention, sir fox," Synizn says suddenly, dropping the act of a mountain man. "Come with me to my office. Bring your lady. And yes, I am Synizn."

  1. Eyes and tails twitching, the demi-foxes follow the rough character......
