Doctor Who: the Eternal Champion recap....(Part 1)

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 17047

I told the Brig awhile ago (more or less) every day for me since becoming a Golem has been Halloween!!

Once upon a time there was a young man named Scott who lived in a nightmarish reality (or non-reality if you wish) which is called Game 3 in Addventure where he was basically tortured almost every day by almost godlike beings called Authors. Somehow this whipping boy gained the powers of an Author, got thoroughly corrupted in the process, and proceeded then to carry out revenge upon those Authors. However, Author Scott mistook some ordinary human beings for the Authors he'd been after, so adducted a young woman who was named Betty Ragan and put her into a place called Game 2 in Addventure. Author Scott had concocted an elaborate plot where after this Betty gets turned into an exact duplicate of a scantily clad actress named Melissa, whisked into the Middle Ages to meet the third Doctor (with TARDIS). The Doctor had been scammed by Author Scott into believing that the only key to defeating the Master from blowing up the Earth was in enlisting the aid of the Twins of Doom (i.e. Melissa and this Betty Ragan, call her Ragan). We change scenes to the endangered Earth, another part of this overwrought revenge plot. We see that an amnesiastic young lady named Stacy who enlisted a skeptical Betty Ragan (let's call her Betty) in going to the VLA. Stacy is convinced that something horrible is happening there and she must get up there ASAP! Indeed, something is happening up there, but our Stacy has been unwittingly set up as a lure to enlist Betty (who Author Scott somehow also saw as an Author who must be punished as well as Ragan. They arrive at the VLA just about the same time as the TARDIS lands, and boy is it interesting! See, Betty wrote in a text based HTML game the very encounter that Ragan had experienced! There was also the delightful shock for Betty actually meeting the Doctor! Anyway, after somewhat recovering, they began to go about trying to find the Master to stop his fiendish plot only to be intercepted by the Master! After a brief struggle, Stacy had grabbed the Master's gun (a backup to his normal "Tissue Compression Eliminator") only to be whammied by the Master into forcing the other into the TARDIS to be taken to the Moon as the Master gloats. The Master has hypnotized the VLA staff on site and set the array to somehow bend some mysterious lines of force (i.e. ley lines) to where a buildup and eventual explosion would occur that would wipe the Earth clean of all human life through the resultant nuclear winter (clearing the way for the Master's client's colonization fleet).

We'll soon find that similar scenes are happenings in other universes....but that's for later....

Anyway, Author Scott has done some sabotage to the TARDIS. Instead of landing on the Moon, the TARDIS skips Terra Prime's reality....right into a populated city on Terra Prime (down in Ethiopia). Then, the TARDIS proceeds to self destruct and only by quick actions do they all escape alive! The Master's TARDIS also has for some reason come along, but that was a small thing. The natives had heard of the Twins of Doom (legend had it that the Twins would lead to the destruction of a nation's leader...and perhaps that nation as well). All but the Master are taken into custody, stripped of all clothing and equipment, and put into jail (with LOTS of magical wards to keep them put until something is decided on what to do with them). The Master got mauled by the leader, Trilling Blackfeather, of the Griffin Nation after he shot the guy with a neural disruptor (didn't kill the griffin, but enraged him by the pain, and also slowly started the slow deterioration of the barrier between Light Trilling and Dark Trilling). Mauled badly, the Master gets taken to the healers to be looked after.

Later that night, Dark Trilling is about to carry out a revenge plot by poisoning a delegation of national leaders visiting Ethiopia when the barrier between the good and evil sides in the griffin's mind collapse. Light Trilling grapples with Dark Trilling for control of the griffin body, and soon it's determined by those who find the struggling griffin that if not gotten rid of soon, both sides would go insane permanently. The task looked impossible, and a political disaster in the making, when Diana Walker (a Doctor Who fanatic from the Military and the Empress of the Dwarves) recognized the Doctor for who he was and that he'd be perfect for this task. After convincing the others that the Twins of Doom had actually been a GOOD thing (i.e. bringing about the revelation of Dark Trilling before he could kill a bunch of people) and that the Doctor was a good fellow (and the only hope here), the Doctor was given a crash course in magery (with magical knowledge donated by a dragon called Dragon Sigin and a dragoness called Malachi....with me being the bridge). Then, the Doctor went and drove out Dark Trilling, leaving good Light Trilling in control of the griffin body.

That's when a parallel version of Melissa (who'd been transformed into an elfin version of herself) arrived and told the Doctor that it would be a great idea to get into the Master's TARDIS, asap! The idea being that if not, the Doctor wouldn't be able to get back to Betty's Earth (as well as a few other endangered parallel Earths) and prevent a rift caused by an unexpected side effect from the VLA from destroying not only a world....but the respective universes as well!

Seems that there was some kind of contest that had been arranged here by some Celestrial beings where a race between the Master (who'd somehow stolen a guard's body to replace the mauled one he had) and the Doctor. Well, fine and well....only that before the Master got into his TARDIS....Diana Walker killed him and crisped his body beyond recourse.

The way clear, the Doctor (and quiet a few other curious adventurers) go inside and find a Rule and an Agent within! We find that in order for the Doctor to be able to use this TARDIS to get back to save Betty's universe (as well as two other Betty's universes who's TARDISes are also somewhere inside here), he must accept becoming a Champion to the Rules and Agents (hey, these Celestrials' hands were tied in this matter....it was this or nothing)!

The Doctor being the Doctor, there really was no choice. After being told about these Rules and Agents, what being a Champion meant, and this stuff about the Dark Tower, the Time Lord accepts! He's too noble not to do anything else.

During the course of events I also had done some brushing up on finding out about the general character of the Doctor, and it confirmed the glimpses of what I'd seen while acting as a bridge.....and I found myself attracted to him for his strength of character and heroic qualities!

Enough said for now.

Now, soon after breaking into one TARDIS that had landed in this place and knocking out one Master (and then knocking out the other)....we soon have the beginning of the formation of our present gang that's going around with the Doctor (Doctor Who for convenience). Sigin 2 was looking for something to do (his translocation to Terra Prime put him out of a job presently). Elrondir, B'Elanna, Gilmuriel, and E'eysha were looking to learn the ways of magic. Betty and Ragan were just dying to go along with Doctor Who to aid him in his adventures. That, and they also wished to also learn the ways of magic. Dr. Who also wished to continue learning more magery. Okay, first the elves come to Sigin 2 to become his apprentices. Fine, this gives the dragon mage a job he'd enjoy greatly. Then, figuring out correctly that the Doctor and his Companions (Betty and Ragan) would be in need of a teacher in magery, Sigin 2 (Sigin from now on) volunteered his services. In this deal he'd travel with the Doctor and others in the TARDIS, along with his other apprentices. Either it was along with his apprentices, or he'd not go. The Doctor gladly accepts, and then gets a message from the Rules and Agents that it would be a great idea to get started on this Quest he'd been tasked with ASAP (it was getting complicated with the other Offices over recent developments). So, without further ado, they rush off to get to it.

Meanwhile, I was fixing the damage done to the door lock to one of the TARDISes still inside Dr. Who's TARDIS (wouldn't do to travel without the door being fixed). I fix it, finally (damn...toughest lock I've ever encountered, that lock). Then, after hearing of the serious business that Dr. Who and friends must do, I quickly rouse the other Doctor who'd retired for the night while I'd been fixing his door. He gets his TARDIS away, clearing the path for Dr. Who's TARDIS. Fine. However, the note that I'd shown the other Doctor telling of this dire situation gets dropped by him accidentally, and then a stray desert breeze sweeps it away. I didn't want the general population to learn of this stuff (bad idea, that). I rush over to catch it, and capture it when it blows against Doctor Who's TARDIS....just as it begins to dematerialized! I've got to hang onto dear life or I'm a goner!

Boy, was it cold in that realm the TARDIS travels through!

Anyway, after a long time hanging on for dear life, the TARDIS finally lands (along with me). We land right in the middle of a fiasco where another Doctor, Master, and sets of Betties have actually landed on a Moon (albeit the Moon of one of the Earth the Doctor had been tasked to save). I took the Master out with a magic spell (make a long story short, I turned him into a frog for easy transport by the other Doctor). The Doctor met and proved to his twin that magic actually existed (with aid from Sigin). We all aided in rescuing the Melissa that had somehow gotten sucked into the other Master's TARDIS. I soon joined the crew here....as well as got a date with a very surprised Doctor.

The other Doctor and his gang soon depart back to his realm.....and.....after a slight....er....detour after we get confronted with the news that only other Champions would be able to aid in Quests (and we all became Champions so as to be able to continue aiding the Doctor), we soon get to our first Earth we needed to save.

Uh, problem is, that on a Quest we must have some difficulty. All part and parcel of being a Champion, see.

I arrive alone at the College there in Socorro.

The elves arrive in the middle of an ongoing role-playing game.

The Doctor and TARDIS arrive at the very steps of one Betty's place, just as that Betty's sister had arrived for a surprised visit.

I'm told by the Doctor, the dear, that this sister got VERY excited by this meeting....

Oh, and the last member of our group, Sigin..... Well, he arrived OVER Socorro....in dragon form. Scared the heck out of everyone who saw him! We were able to finally get back together and out to the VLA (just a bit after the other Doctor who'd arrived in Dr. Who's TARDIS had taken off) ....and the sun turned blue (uh...did I mention that this Earth got dragged to Terra Prime's universe and placed into a life zone around a blue giant star)?

We overpower the hypnotized VLA people left behind to guard the complex (and happy to say that the Doctor learned after that to use his magic to handle those situation vice trying to talk them down....I still wince when I remember Ragan getting shot in the arm).

  1. We send out the signal to stabilize and repair the damage done to the universe (and also changed that universe into a "steady state" universe....by the way), and then went onto our second target.
