Making the Best of Things

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 17020

"How can you treat this so lightly?" Fred asked. "I'm not really, but the alternative is bursting into tears, and I am not going to do that. At least we are free at long last. Even before we were imprisoned by Ringroot and then by Synizn, we had our course set out for us by Malachi. And before that, I was Minestus' prisoner."

"But that bastard Synizn must have decided we were of no further use to him once he had the Crystallic, and so has banished us to this gods- forsaken place. Doesn't that enrage you? If what the dragoness told us was true, then any hope of getting ourselves restored has gone." "So neither of us can ever go home. And in a few months I shall be giving birth to a litter of who knows what. I know all that, but I'd rather not think about it than keep dwelling on it, thank you. In Aqualaria we have a saying: 'What can't be cured must be endured.' In other words, we have to try to get on with our lives and make the best of things, hard though that is."

"Well," Fred said, "if this is somewhere near the Dead Sea then we need to go east if we are to make our way back to the lands that we know." "I'm not too sure that that's where I want to go," Astra replied. "Also we have no supplies of food or water, nor anything to carry them in even if we had them. This region doesn't look very promising for living off the land. Perhaps we should head initially in the direction in which fertile land lies closest."

  1. "And how are we to tell which direction that is?" Fred asked.
