"My name's Betty Ragan." Betty sighed. "Geez, I really wish you'd shown up a few minutes earlier. I don't much feel like going through that whole explanation again."

But Astra did not appear to be particularly interested in the explanation just now, as she had suddenly caught sight of Lord Fred. "Fred!" she exclaimed. "I am glad to see that you're all right."

"Excuse me?" said Fred, blushing slightly and trying not to look directly at Astra's nakedness. "Do I know you?"

Astra's eyes widened in surprise, then narrowed suspiciously. She reached her hand down to casually rest on her dagger. "What have you done to him?"

"Huh?" said Betty. "Me? Nothing!"

"Then why do you not recognize me, Lord Fred, when we were together only a few moments ago?"

"Oh, that's simple enough," said Betty. "You must be from different storylines."

Astra looked at Fred, who shrugged helplessly, as if to say that it didn't make any sense to him, either.

"This woman obviously has bewitched you," she said firmly. "Or else drugged you to rob you of your memory."

Fred looked down at his wine cooler and raised his eyebrows.

"Don't be ridiculous!" Betty was starting to sound nervous. "I can explain."

1. And she proceeded to give the quantum mechanics/interactive fiction lecture all over again.
2. Astra drew her dagger and prepared to defend herself (and Fred) from the obvious witch and/or poisoner.
3. But they were all interrupted by yet another arrival...
