"A monkey with a stick?" said Denia disgustedly, glaring at the small
primate barring their way along the narrow road. "What the hell is that
all about? Thyd, whack it." Denia generally let Thyd whack things which
she regarded as beneath her own Amazon warrior skills. Thyd seemed to
appreciate this, claiming it was a good self-esteem builder and
demonstrated latent leadership skills on Denia's part which he was always
hinting she should develop more. "Whack it? What do you mean, whack it? It's just a harmless little monkey." "Yeah, maybe we should make friends with it," said Hal, thinking that, if he did so, perhaps he could get close to it and steal its stick, just in case it might turn out to be valuable. Come to think of it, maybe it was somebody's pet monkey, and they'd be willing to pay to get it back... "Ow!" cried Wayland as the monkey thwacked him soundly with the stick.
