Fred decides to let the clot dry. After all, if he should make a romantic
move, another orc might attack him. He gives Diana his knife and tells
her to go cut the throat of the orc she clubbed. She takes it. While she
is gone, Fred moves so that he is parallel to the stream, but leaning on
its bank. He knows that he will not be able to move today, lest the wound
open up again. And then there is the pain. Diana returns from slitting the throat of the last orc. She sits down next to Fred. She cuts another piece of her dress and places it over the wound to stop the blood from oozing. Fred winces with the pain. He looks up at her, and still notices how the fighting has loosened up the neckline of her dress. Oh, but he must not look at her! She smiles. The wound has scarred his buttocks, but should heal well with time. She fashions a makeshift bandage and puts his trousers on for him. The trousers will hold the bandage in place for now and keep the wound from becoming dirty. Still, Fred does not risk standing. He rolls over and puts his head in her lap until they both fall asleep. He awakes many times in the night, but finally gets some shut eye. In the morning, she changes his bandages. The wound has shut, but they decide to wait another day before moving. All day she waits on him, obtaining food and water, as well as changing the bandage. They sleep together for warmth another night, and the sun rises on them embraced.
