It had been easy enough for Stacy to accept the mission when she had
originally been offered it.
All she had known of humanity then was what those planning the mission had
told her.
They hadn't needed to distort Earth's history all that much to paint a
picture of
a cruel and warlike species with no redeeming features. Her people would
be doing
the Galaxy a favour by taking over Earth and nullifying the potential
threat that it
posed, before it had the chance to develop interstellar travel.
So the identity of Stacy Jones had been created for her, a healthy bank account opened in her name, and she had been left on Earth. But something - some allergic reaction, maybe? - had caused her to lose her memory within a short time of her mission beginning, ironically only leaving her with the information that had been implanted in her mind so she could pass herself off as a normal human. Since her memory loss, she had made human friends - Betty 1 first, and then Betty-2, Melissa and the Doctor (though technically he wasn't human, it was hard to see him as anything else) - and had learnt that humans could be good and noble and kind. Stacy knew that when she didn't report back, someone else would take her place. The take-over plan would still go ahead.
