A little author's note:When SNEAKERS came out I was running the CompuServe Showbiz Forum day to day,and Universal cut a deal to promote the film through our Forum.I got to see an early sneak preview of the film and got an electronic press kit,and ran an online conference with the filmmakers, who participated in our Forum for a while.Director-writer Phil Alden Robinson noted that they had originally filmed an ending with the chip being destroyed[dumped in SF Bay],but they switched to the Republicans-out-of-money ending after they felt the first one didn't work right.Interesting take on it in this plot,I do remember the film fondly.
"It was a real problem for the Doctor Who series when Michael Grade forced it to basically skip a year to free up BBC money for buying rights to a miniseries he'd produced before he joined them. And with the way the Doctor's been signing autographs for fans of the series...a real Doctor showing up at the BBC and helping make sure the show stays on the air just has a certain ring to it." "I'm not sure I want to get too involved with the fate of this television series",the Doctor said."The very idea of these untrained people pretending to be Time Lords and TARDIS technicians..." "Well,it's all done with special effects for the series",Betty pointed out.She thought idly about the substitution of a real transmat beam or sonic screwdriver for the props on the set."Their Daleks are just inverted conical gadgets with short men inside."
