Stabbing Westward

"It's for your own safety. There are enemy patrols around. Find a hiding place and wait." Fred said. He stood up. "I won't be gone long."

Alexandria said "How can you be so heartless! Leaving a defenseless woman here in the depths of the cave after you yank off her bodice and have your fun with her!"

"I will broach no more argument." Fred said, walking away.

Alexandria held a sharp rock up to her neck. "If you leave me... I will kill myself!"

"Do as you will." Fred said. "I can't waste my time babysitting a crazy woman."

"You think I am lying..." Alexandria sobbed. She thrust the rock into her throat. Fred closed the distance in a second. Alexandria's hands were gripped in his. Fred tossed the rock aside.

"You will live." he said. "You missed the vital vein."

"Will you take me with you?" she gasped.

Fred nodded. "Do not speak." He tore a strip of cloth from her dress. Alexandria let him bind her wound, saying nothing.

The gondola ride up was short. As they climbed out, warriors surrounded them. Fred counted. At least twenty.

"It's dyin' time, boy." said one. He held an iron chain.

1. Fred drew his sword. "Alex, hide in the gondola."
