Douglass and Sarah ran, not knowing if the mother dragon would soon
arrive. "That was close! Too close!" sighed Douglass. "Shouldn't you
have killed it?" asked Sarah.
"Kill it? Why.... well... that's not my job. Besides, the mother could've come any second and made of us toasted wheaties!" Sarah thought about that for a moment and then wondered what toasted wheaties tasted like... after all she wasn't one of the most affluent folk around. "We should tell the King," she said. "Right you are," answered Douglass. "But first let us tell the Count of Spraigue. He is closer, after all." "Oh you are so smart!" giggled Sarah. And with that the twosome continued their run through the woods towards the gleeming Tower of Ference where lived Count Webster of Spraigue. "Why didn't you kill it?" asked the Count once Douglass had given his story. "Well, I.... uh... you see..." stammered Douglass. "He chose to save me!" said Sarah. "He was so daring and brave. He grabbed me by my bosom and dragged me away from the terrible monster! Why that cruel mother-beast that gave birth to the slimy thing could've eaten us at any moment! He saved me and rushed us here as fast as he could so that you could know." I hope that makes him look better in the Count's eyes... now he owes me one! thought Sarah, and then she wondered is Countess' ever wore pink chaffon. "Well," said Count Webster. "You certainly have an admirer in this here lass. Good job Douglass. Now, to let loose my hounds to eat that monster and be done with it!"
