Belinda Hunts

The curse might have given up interest in Fred, but Belinda had not. Her enhanced Unseelie sense of smell had detected him. Faerie dragon wings (which look very like dragonfly wings) were a great delicacy for the Unseelie - though admittedly only a small one for something Belinda's size. She did not know this, of course, only that she smelt something delicious.

If Fred had learnt how to use his wings then he would have been in no danger, but unfortunately he had yet to do so. As a Seelie creature, he could not die, and his wings would regrow in time, but it would be a long and painful process. His Seelie senses detected a threat, and he headed away from it, but his small size meant that his progress was much slower than his pursuer's.

As Belinda headed in the direction of the smell, she was glad that the abominable itching was rapidly declining now, and even the heat seemed less of a problem than it had been. Most of her skin was dark and leathery now, and her body below the waist was becoming covered in coarse dark wool. She had grown appreciably more muscular. She was walking on her toes now, which were in the process of fusing together and turning into hooves. Her ears were becoming pointed. She did not know what she was turning into, but now that all her attention was fixed on the hunt she was able to ignore her transformation for the time being.

1. Then Belinda sighted her quarry, some fifty yards away.
