Lord Fred was overwhelmed by a wave of panic. Why did he drink from that
vial? Potions in dungeons can be extremely dangerous, and
containers that say "Drink Me" are almost certainly traps for unwary
adventurers! After experiencing that weird out-of-body moment about
"Espidoe Creation" (or something), Lord Fred hurridly looks around the
room to see if anything has changed. Seeing nothing but the room, an open
door, and Velus the teenage dog, Lord Fred hurries to a mirror to make
sure the potion hasn't had any adverse effects on him.
Fred stares at his reflection, and his reflection peers back exactly the way it should. He still sees his own two eyes, his same scarred jaw, two strong hands with four fingers and a thumb each, and the proud armour of the D'Honaire family. Everything seemed to be in order. So why, then, was Velus shaking under the table with his paws over his nose? Lord Fred was quite sure he didn't smell that bad! Or did he? Fred lifted his arms and sniffed his armpits. Nope, no smell. Lord Fred's proud nose couldn't detect anything foul either on himself or elsewhere in the room. Must be a dog thing. Wait a minute... Lord Fred sniffed at his armpits again. Instead of smelling the familiar scents of leather and polished metal, Fred didn't smell anything at all. He tried smelling the cake, tried to smell the dank dungeon air, and pulled out a wedge of cheese from his pack to wave under his nose. Nothing made scents. Fred was completely odour-blind! "Velus," Fred began, his attention returning to the little dog, "I seem to have lost my sense of smell. Do I... smell bad?" Velus gave his bark for 'Yes.' Lord Fred frowned. "How bad, exactly? Is it just bad that dogs would notice, but not people?" Velus paused for a moment to consider, then barked 'No.' "Velus... What do I actually smell like?" After a few bad guesses, Velus gives his bark for 'Yes' when Lord Fred guesses 'Skunk.' "This is terrible!" Lord Fred exclaimed, his mind wandering to all the ladies of the court back home. "Velus, is this part of your plan? Is this why you brought me here?"
