Belinda was in no hurry. Fred would be paralysed and helpless for another
two days,
and her sisters would not wake from their drugged sleep for at least six
hours. She
removed her hands from his nose and mouth, and allowed him to regain
consciousness.
"See the mighty Lord Fred," she said, "as helpless as a newborn baby.
Well, I'll leave
you to reflect on your fate for a while. I need to contact the dragon, and
let him
know that he can collect my sisters."
She took from her pocket a piece of amber which the dragon's messenger had given her, and concentrated her attention on it. After a few seconds it began to glow, and she heard the dragon's voice in her mind: "Have you completed your task, Belinda?" "My sisters have been drugged. D'Honaire is paralysed and helpless, but I haven't killed him yet." "That is good, as I have changed my mind about him. I think there will be some sport to be had from him and Astra, if I keep him alive to see what I do to her. Similarly she can see what I do to him. Now, where are you?" "One room back from a place behind a hidden door where there is a pit of poisonous snakes." "I know the place. I will send some of my guards to fetch you all. Wait there for them."
