By the time the sun dawned the little hamlet was in ruins. The sound of
wailing and of sobs rose in the morning mist, as did tears flow down from
weary and bloodshot eyes. Twelve people, men, women & children were dead,
and various buildings were still burning, smoldering, or a simple
blackened mess. Rowel Groove was still in his church, as were the mass of
people lucky enough to have entered the hallowed area and locked the door
as the chaos began. The werebeast was nowhere to be seen, and neither was
the man who had brought it here.
The village leader, one Tabby Frie, knew that news of the monster must be sent to their land's Lord. He ordered two men to ride horses to the Lord's estate - a ride of two days. They were to tell their master of the werewolf, an Aquilarian woman by day who had the name Astra. They were also to tell the Lord of the knight who was traveling with it, who had caught and trapped it and was planning on taking it to justice - Lord Fred. They did not know the fate of Lord Fred, for his body was not found amongst the dead, but whether dead or alive, his name must be given to their Lord. Lord Fred, meanwhile, had been able to keep just far enough behind the moon-mad wolfwoman to not get caught in its claws. With the slumber of the moon and the awakening of the sun, she was now no longer a danger to him. In fact, she was once again his prisoner, trussed up but for her legs. Astra wanted to die. She couldn't bear to hear from Fred what had happened in the night, how she had ripped the hearts out of children! She told Fred to stop describing it, but he wouldn't, he seemed to take delight in her murderous rampage. And now the twosome were traveling again, Fred had left the village with horses and he had placed the bound Astra in such a way so that she would not fall. Fred's goal was his home of Suffex Duchy and his father's city of Bannock. He would either kill Astra along the way (if need be) or give her over to the White Hand once in his homeland. Also once in Bannock he would begin the slow and subtle torture of his family. He savored the thought of causing shame to come upon his father; no steel could cause more pain that that of shame when it came to his father.
