The Book is unhappy - insofar as an intelligent magical artifact can be
unhappy.
Things have gone less than perfectly. First there had been the problem
with what
should have been a routine series of teleports. It isn't sure precisely
what
had gone wrong. Fortunately it had still managed to pick up all those whom
it had targetted,
but somehow it had also acquired some others as well. At least two of them
seem to
have some magical ability, which might conceivably complicate matters.
Then, when the Book had barely recovered from the after effects of the teleports, it had detected two presences within the pyramid additional to those that should be there. It should not have been possible for anything to get into the pyramid without the Book permitting it. Worse still, it has been unable even to detect what sort of creatures these are, which must mean that whatever they are they are very powerful. All it can tell is that they are in the same room as the one where all those it had brought here had gathered. Then, after a few minutes, the two presences depart as suddenly as they had arrived. Had it been human, the Book would have let out a sigh of relief at this point. It seemed that its plan was still on course after all. With the two presences' departure, the Book is able once again to sense the location and status of all those in the pyramid. The status of some of its captives seems to have subtly changed in some way, but the Book does not think that this should present a problem. In fact by all coming into the same room, its unwilling guests have rather played into its (metaphorical) hands. It will be much easier to deal with them now than if they had been scattered throughout the pyramid. It locks the room's doors, and then casts a sleep spell.
Meanwhile Thessamar ix'latl is in the middle of explaining why she is still naked. Apparently she is under a curse that makes it impossible for her to wear clothes. "I can probably lift the curse, given time," Jarlath says. "But I'm afraid we have other priorities just at the moment." "I understand that, and anyway it doesn't bother me that much," Thessamar replies.
