In Search of the Remains of the Great Empire

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 15276

"Wait a minute," Fred said, when they were almost ready to depart. "What about the other Fred? We can't just forget about him." "It will be some weeks before he is fit to travel," the Doctor replied. "As I told you, I am more of a natural philosopher than a mage. Unlike my counterpart in the other world..." "Timeband," Fred interrupted triumphantly. "Yes, all right, timeband. Anyway, unlike him, I am not able to effect a quick cure using magic, so the full recovery of your 'twin' will take a long time. Rest assured, though, that I will take good care of him while you are away, and by the time you return he will probably be fully healed."

Fred wondered whether to argue that they should wait for the other Fred to recover before setting out, but he decided against it. He didn't want to spend several weeks or even months in the tower. Priceless gave him the creeps, however well-meaning he might be. And though Bobo now knew that Fred was off-limits as a playmate, Fred still could not help but cringe every time he saw him.

So it was a group of three who left the tower. All of them were suitably attired for the desert in baggy robes that left only their faces exposed. They had supplies of food and water, and each of them had a sword.

Thessamar was smiling to herself. She had switched the spare outfit that had been in Astra's pack for the pink velvet nightgown. Little did she suspect that Astra had played a similar trick on her. Astra had taken a knife and hacked off the bottom of Thessamar's spare robe, so that it would only reach mid- thigh. Then she had put it back in Thessamar's pack.

  1. Leaving the tower behind, the three set their course towards the far-off desolate area where the heart of the Great Empire had once been.
